Can we trust this month's cloud cost figure yet?

Onam FinOps records every ingestion run and shows the reconciliation state of every period. You can see whether a number is settled before you quote it.

The problem

In your words

We quoted a cost figure to the board, and a week later it changed. Finance reconciles against an export that landed mid-close, and nobody can say whether this month's figure is final or still moving. Our cost tool shows the number with the same confidence either way.
What you see

What Reconciled billing shows you

Described from the product documentation — what the view holds, not what we hope it will.

  • Run history

Each run records what it ingested, when, and how it ended — the provenance behind every figure.

  • Reconciliation state per period

How well the ingested records agree with the source billing data. An unreconciled period is labelled as a working estimate.

  • Daily and monthly-close runs

Daily runs keep the current period live. The monthly close settles a completed period.

  • The cost model

Billed cost and effective cost reported for every period, side by side, never flattened into one figure.

  • Gaps made visible

A gap in the run history means the figures for that window are incomplete, whatever the charts show.

How it works

The mechanism, step by step

What Reconciled billing does, in the order it does it.

  1. 1
Daily runs ingest the current period

The running picture of this period, which keeps moving until it closes.

  2. 2
A monthly-close run finalises the period

Once it completes, the period's figure is settled and quotable.

  3. 3
    Reconciliation is recorded

Each period carries a state describing how well the ingested records agree with the source billing data.

  4. 4
You read it before you quote it

Recent daily runs mean the figure is live. A completed monthly close means it is settled. A gap means it is incomplete.

Limits, said plainly

What it does not do

Knowing where a capability stops is part of deciding whether to buy it.

  • The current period is an estimate

Until the monthly close, the figure will keep moving. The console labels it as a working estimate rather than presenting it as settled.

  • It reports billing; it does not fix it

Runs show how settled the data is. They do not correct the provider's billing data or move money.

FAQ

Questions about Reconciled billing

Look for a completed monthly-close run. A period with only recent daily runs is still live and will keep moving.
